Our fleet of 170 aircraft make more 2,000 weekly departures, flying approximately 90,000 hours per year to serve more than 250 communities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. At Ameriflight we have built our reputation and a satisfied customer base on an unwavering commitment to service. Our large fleet makes Ameriflight the largest cargo airline in the country operating under Part 135 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Our fleet of Embraer Brasilias, Fairchild Metro IIIs and Expediters, Beech 1900s and 99s Piper Navajos and Chieftains assures an unparalleled ability to respond to our customers' needs. Our leadership role extends beyond fleet size and area served; our goal is to set an FAR 135 air cargo benchmark for best service, reliability, and value for our customers while maintaining excellent employee working conditions, benefits, and safety. The following is a brief description of the services Ameriflight provides:
A large portion of Ameriflight’s daily activity provides small package feeder aircraft for overnight parcel carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Every morning our airplanes meet customers' large cargo jet freighters at distribution hubs around the country and load next-day-delivery packages for small communities where limited volume or lack of facilities precludes the use of a large aircraft. In the evening, our airplanes carry packages from the small communities back to hub airports for transportation by the parent carriers’ large jets to their sort centers or for international delivery.
Another facet of our business provides a network of flights to transport checks, documents, medical specimens, etc., between small communities and processing centers in large cities. While we perform this service in other areas, the majority of this type of flying operates the western United States. Flying outbound from Ameriflight bases on weekday mornings (and on limited weekends), these aircraft return after business hours in the evening.
Ameriflight also provides service five nights per week up and down the West Coast for financial and courier customers. Shuttling between Burbank, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Phoenix with Beech 99's, 1900's and Fairchild Metro IIIs, we move over 75,000 pounds of documents and data a day.
The support group for all of the above activities consists of an Operations and Customer Service Department to schedule and track the daily flights, insuring that the customers' needs are satisfied. Our Flight Department hires, trains and maintains a flight crew roster of approximately 250 pilots. More than 165 mechanics and support personnel in Ameriflight's Maintenance Department track, maintain, and modify aircraft for cargo service. Other departments consist of Parts/Purchasing, which carries an aircraft spare parts inventory valued at more than $15 million; Accounting and Data Processing, which processes approximately 7,000 documents per month; Line Service, which pumps in excess of 300,000 gallons of fuel per month; and our Human Resources Department, which assists over 650 Ameriflight employees in personnel administration and employee relations matters to help foster an environment of recognition and support of human value at the workplace.
